Bacolicious Art

I'm sure you might remember last year when Bacolicious fever hit the internet and everyone was slapping a slice of internet bacon across their favorite websites. Well, Erika Nelson from Worlds Largest Things just did an awesome art installation project at the Smoky Hill River Festival this weekend in Salina, Kansas.

“Bacolicious” – Exploring a current internet meme, this installation brings to mind the culture of fairs and festivals as an idealized excape–where you can indulge in some decadence, guilt-free. Fried foods on a stick, funnel cakes, the kind of foods that you yearn for, nostalgically, yet don’t allow yourself to have unless at a “special” event–The graphic elements of “Bacolicious” will invoke the visceral smells and tastes of the Festival’s atmosphere.

I'm not sure how the Bacolicious art project came into being, but it's pretty awesome. If I had been anywhere near Kansas this weekend, I definitely would have gone just to see the internet come to life. And have my picture taken with a giant strip of bacon. You can check out the full photo set and comments here.

Ralph Lauren's Rugby Skulls

I'm not a big Ralph Lauren fan as preppy was never my type. I'm a metal chick thru and thru. However, I can appreciate some of these styles shown on Ralph Lauren's Rugby.com website, esp since they seem to favor the almighty skull design. Of course, designer labels never come cheap but they will last you a while.

My favorite is this CAMO CANVAS TOTE BAG - on sale for $79.99

ASHES SKULLS BERMUDA SHORT - on sale for $39.99

MARA BUNGALOW HOODIE - on sale for $59.99

BLACK SKULL BIKINI TOP - on sale for $49.99 (bottom sold separately)

SKULL-AND-BONES BOARD SHORT - on sale for $49.99

And it's kinda cool that you can Make Your Own hats and shirts by choosing your design and favorite colors

The Meat Dress

Jia Jem is obviously a big Aqua Teen Hunger Force fan (like me) and is also a super crafty chick (unlike me). Her inspiration for the salami and bacon Meat Dress was Meatwad and her ATHF themed birthday party.

This is some of what Jia Jem had to say about her creation (go to her site for more pics):

"This is the most awesome, disgusting thing I have ever made. I reeked of salty bacon and salami, which I found out is actually quite alluring to guys."

"I contemplated many ideas, including beef jerky, ham, ground beef, prosciutto... but they were all too expensive, thick, and/or runny. I chose salami because it's thin, keeps in one piece, and is quite cheap, and bacon because it looks very, um, meaty. I considered somehow vacuum-sealing sheets of meat with those sealers they have on the markets now, but the machines were too expensive for a one-time-only disposeable dress. I ended up using the K.I.S.S. method of construction, which involved a basic shift dress out of thick cotton. I layed the meat on top, then put clear vinyl over it and sewed tracks with clear thread. I used a wide stitch length to avoid perforating the meat to the point it might just... uh, slide down the bottom of the dress. I also blotted it all before sewing to get rid of as much grease as possible to avoid clouding the vinyl. Lastly, I made sure to bind the bottom of the dress with a strip of clear vinyl to catch drips. (I love talking about this; it's so disgusting.) The whole project took about 6 hours, and I kept it refrigerated until the party. Good times."

The only thing I would have suggested is that she sunbathe for a while in the dress to see if the bacon would cook enough to become edible. Or maybe a tanning bed. Wait, hot grease. Forget it. Still, a creative costume and an awesome dress!

Maple Bacon Coffee - .99¢ shipping

BocaJava is having a Father's Day promotion where shipping on all orders is only .99¢. I've been dying to try their Maple Bacon Morning Coffee and the only thing that's stopped me is that the shipping is usually almost as much as the coffee itself. I've already placed my order because I can't pass up this sweet deal.

MrBaconpants recently did a great review of the Maple Bacon Morning Coffee and it was all thumbs up.

Maple Bacon Morning Coffee

The .99¢ shipping is only for a limited time, the offer expires 6/21/09 ( shipping is regularly $7.95).

I'm not able to link directly to the Maple Bacon Coffee but you can easily find it in the Coffee section under Flavored Coffees.

Smells Like Bacon Boxers

I think these men's Smells Like Bacon Boxers($12.99) are really cute but also a little bit strange. Great shot of the pig on the front, quite suggestive really. The "Smells Like Bacon!" on the back is the part I'm questioning. What smells like bacon? Could be farts, could be a general assy smell? All I know if my boyfriend's farts smelled like bacon, I'd be in heaven. A LOT.

Vans Skull Sneakers on Sale @ HotTopic

Sorry for the slow posting these days, it's a combination of spring fever, crazy job stress and I just started taking a night class. It's the first class I've taken since 1992 so it's all a little strange for me. If anyone has any tips on Oracle: Intro to SQL, please share.

Anyhoo, I love these Vans Paint Skull High Tops and since Hot Topic has them on sale, I thought it would be the perfect time to post them. This is a really beautiful watercolor painting of a skull on a colorful (but not garish) background. The rest of the upper is solid black suede. It's not too hard to find sneakers with skulls on them these days, but this pair has class, you know what I mean?

Hottopic.com is having a 25% Off All Sneakers Sale - Use promo code: HOTKICKS! The promotion runs through 6/1 to 6/14.

I do also like these slip-on skull Vans. More understated but still with the nice watercolor effect in black and white.
